Josh McCown placed on IR, out for season

UPDATE: The Panthers have agreed to sign free agent A.J. Feeley to replace McCown as the #2 quarterback on the depth chart, according to a report on ESPN.

The Panthers have placed backup QB Josh McCown on Injured Reserve, ending his season after he was brought in for 3 plays before he was taken out by a knee injury in yesterday’s brutal loss to Philadelphia.

McCown was the backup to Jake Delhomme, who has struggled mightily in his last two non-preseason games. This injury leaves the Panthers with two active quarterbacks, Delhomme and Matt Moore, until a roster move is made.

The Panthers have two options. The can either sign Hunter Cantwell from the practice squad to the roster, or look in free agency for a veteran quarterback that was released prior to the start of the season. Some names that have been floated around are Jeff Garcia, who was cut by the Raiders, and A.J. Feeley, who was cut by the Eagles.

Maybe Feeley should take over as starter.
