Better, but not better enough…

The good news is Jake Delhomme only threw one interception against the Falcons.

The bad news is the interception came when the Panthers had the ball in the red zone with just over 2 minutes to go and down by 8 points.

But, overall Delhomme had a much better game than he did last week. He took care of the ball and was able to move the offense down the field, so there isn’t too much to complain about when it comes to his performance.

The real area of blame in today’s loss to the Falcons has to lie with the defense. The inability to tackle the ball carrier and get the opposing offense off the field to give your team a chance to score points is the quickest way to lose a football game – and the Panthers defense proved that point today.

The Falcons ran and passed the ball at will against the Panthers, and kept the Panthers defense on the field for way too long in the 2nd half, making it impossible for the Panthers to put enough points on the board to come out with the win.

So, the Panthers start the 2009 campaign 0-2, and really need to step it up if they want to have any success this season. It’s not the end of the world just yet, but if they don’t get their act together soon, the playoffs will not be in the big picture for the Panthers.

The Panthers played better than they did last week, but their better wasn’t quite good enough to leave Atlanta with a win.

Oh well, I guess we will have to wait until Week 3 for that first victory on the season…

Tough start to the season. They'll get better. Sucks to have to play those two teams early.

I sure hope they get better, because the schedule doesn't get any easier.

    Agree it's very tough.
