Panthers sign DT Antwon Burton

According to an article over at Cat Scratch Reader, the Panthers have agreed to sign DT Antwon Burton to replace recently injured DT Louis Leonard (who was a replacement for injured DT Ma’ake Kemoeatu).

Burton participated in training camp with the St. Louis Rams this year, but failed to make the 53-man roster. He has also seen limited action with Kansas City, Cincinnati, and Denver in his brief career.

Burton is only 26 years old and fits the body-type (6-2, 325) that the Panthers were looking for to plug run-gaps in the defensive line. (So, while he may be a last resort signing, at least he is a young and big last resort.)

Hopefully he can stay healthy for the season, because if he goes down with an injury the Panthers won’t have anyone else to choose from to replace him without making a trade.
