Matt Moore to sign tender for next season

It’s official: Matt Moore will be back for the Carolina Panthers in 2010.

According to an article by Charles Chandler from Inside the Panthers, Moore is expected to sign the 1-year, $3M* tender today or tomorrow, as confirmed by his agent.

“It’s a done deal,” said agent Lynn Lashbrook. “He’s excited about getting started for next season. He did not want to wait around. He wanted to send a message to the community and the team. …”

It’s still not a 100% guarantee that Moore will be the starter, but as of right now he is penciled in at the #1 QB position on the depth chart. Hopefully the team can get a long term deal worked out if Moore can prove that he is ready to take over the offense this upcoming season.

If nothing else, at least this adds some excitement to the previously depressing offseason, and there’s finally an announcement that doesn’t involve a player being released.

Moore is the first player to sign his RFA tender for the Panthers this offseason.

* – $3.043 million, to be exact.
